How counselling works

My counselling approach is firmly grounded in the humanistic tradition believing that you are the expert of your own lived experience. I believe we all have the potential to bring about change for ourselves and talking to a counsellor could facilitate the release of that potential.

The core model of counselling that I work from is Person Centred Therapy. In addition, I can work with techniques and approaches integrated from Existential Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Solution Focused Therapy.

Sometimes I use elements of Creative Therapy to enable you to express yourself creatively. For example, for some people expressing feelings in words can be difficult. Working creatively in counselling, using imagery, buttons, pebbles and other materials, can facilitate a person to access and connect with their emotions and lead to making sense of themselves and the issues that they are facing.


I am experienced in supporting individuals from a wide range of communities, who have experienced personal difficulties, including:

    As well as offering individual general counselling, I have a special interest in Grief and Loss and offer bereavement counselling (encompassing all losses) to individuals aged 18 years and above.

    From my own experience of being a client and a counsellor, I believe that the effectiveness of counselling is in the quality of the client-counsellor relationship. My role as a counsellor is to accompany you on your journey, to support, to enquire, respectfully challenge and understand your perspective. This in turn, can enable you to realise your own inner resources to acquire a deeper understanding of yourself and your problems and engage fully in life.
